Playing with the Pyramids

Oakland artist Niki Broyles (1947-2017), also known as Magnolia, came of age in the colorful hippie culture of Berkeley and the Haight Ashbury. Playing with the Pyramids presents her biography along with her psychedelic paintings inspired by visits to Europe and Egypt, the artistic freedom of the Summer of Love, and the spiritual curiosity of the Beatles generation. With 170 paintings and 80 photographs, including a vibrant rendition of the Tarot and powerful works Sphinx (cover), Bud Before, Kundalini, and Back in Egypt, that radiate with shimmering gold leaf and fascinating metaphysical symbolism painted in minute detail.
